Buena Park Emergency Plumber, Day or Night

Buena Park has the oldest housing of the seven cities with a page on this site, with a median home built in 1965, and both 90620 and 90621 are handled from Fullerton, the nearest of our ten locations. Nights, Sundays and holidays, a person still picks up. In the 1950s tracts the work tends to begin at the sewer lateral or an original drain. Before anything is opened, you get a written estimate to approve.

What to know about plumbing in Buena Park

James A. Whitaker founded Buena Park in 1887 on 690 acres bought from Abel Stearns, and the City says the name comes from Plaza Buena, Spanish for good park. Two years later California's first evaporated-milk cannery opened on what is now Beach Boulevard, the town's first industry. In 1920 Cordelia and Walter Knott began working a 10-acre farm here; Walter developed the boysenberry, and Knott's Berry Farm now spreads over 150 acres at 8039 Beach Boulevard. The city incorporated on January 27, 1953, with Grady Travis as its first mayor, and by 2010 its 10.28 square miles were about 98 percent built out. The Whitaker-Jaynes Estate (1887), the Bacon House (1884) and the Buena Park Woman's Clubhouse (1931) recall the early town, while Buena Park Mall, Ralph B. Clark Regional Park with its lake and paleontology center, and the Metrolink station renamed Art Brown Metrolink Station on December 17, 2025 belong to the newer one. Fullerton lies to the east, Anaheim to the south and east, Cypress to the west and south and La Palma to the west, and the county line runs along the north and west.

By Census count (ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates) Buena Park has about 24,900 housing units, and their median year built, 1965, is the oldest among our seven city pages. Three homes in four (76 percent) were built before 1980, detached single-family houses make up 58 percent, and the 1950s alone produced 37 percent of everything standing today. The City's General Plan does not divide the city into named neighborhoods; it uses focus areas instead, from the Entertainment Corridor on Beach Boulevard to Central Buena Park, the Civic Center, the Orangethorpe and Commonwealth corridors and Fillmore/Jackson. Most homes in between went up from 1950 to 1980, and a house finished in the mid-1950s has carried waste through its first sewer lateral for about 70 years unless someone has already replaced it.

The City of Buena Park Water Department serves almost all of the city from 8 wells and a 20-million-gallon reservoir, through about 236 miles of mains from 4 to 36 inches across and about 19,500 connections; a few areas take their water from the City of Fullerton or Suburban Water Systems instead. In fiscal 2024-25 about 91 percent of the supply was local groundwater and 9 percent imported. In 2025 the groundwater averaged about 12 grains per gallon of hardness and the imported water about 14, enough over the years to coat the inside of a water heater and the face of a showerhead. A check of the service lines found no lead or galvanized lines that need replacing. Backflow devices are tested when they go in and every year after, under a cross-connection plan in effect since July 1, 2025, and the watering rules ban automated irrigation from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and any watering on Sunday.

The Sewer Services Division looks after more than 168 miles of mains and more than 3,400 manholes and films about 200,000 feet of line every year, and the Orange County Sanitation District treats what it carries. The City maintains the main and nothing else. The owner's lateral runs all the way to the saddle or wye on that main, which can sit beyond the sidewalk, the curb or the parkway. Work in the public right of way needs a contractor holding an A, C-42 or C-34 license; ours is a C-36 plumbing license, so if the camera puts a break under the street, we tell you so and our written estimate covers only the part on your property. Permits come from the Building Division in Community Development: house repipes and water heater replacements can be permitted online, and other plumbing permits are issued in person. Buena Park calls go out from our Fullerton location, and the written workmanship warranty applies to every repair we finish here.

Buena Park borders Fullerton, Anaheim, Cypress and La Palma. We take calls from each of those as well, and the plumber for any of them comes from our location nearest that address. Someone picks up the phone around the clock, the plumber hunts down the true starting point of a leak or clog before a wall or floor gets cut, and the work waits for your signature on the written estimate.

Typical calls from Buena Park

  • 01Sewer laterals in 1950s houses blocked by roots or broken at a joint, cleared and filmed toward the wye so you know whether the fault is on your lot or under the street.
  • 02Whole-house repipes for postwar homes that keep springing leaks, permitted online with the Building Division and closed out after inspection.
  • 03Water heaters coated inside by years of 12-grain groundwater, replaced under an online permit, strapped twice against earthquakes and given a relief line to a safe outlet.
  • 04Kitchen and bath drains that clog again soon after clearing, where a camera shows whether the original pipe itself is causing it.

US Census figures

How old Buena Park homes are, and what kind they are

  • 1965Median year built
  • 76%Built before 1980
  • 58%Detached single-family
  • 24,877Housing units

76 percent of the homes in Buena Park were already standing in 1980. A California house of that age usually started out with galvanized steel or copper water lines, cast iron drains under the floor and a clay sewer pipe running to the street. Galvanized lines close up with rust from the inside, cast iron roughens and splits along its bottom, and clay joints let roots through. Weak flow at every faucet, a shutoff that will not turn, the same drain clogging month after month or water marks on the ceiling below a shower all tend to trace back to the pipe itself.

In Buena Park the detached house on its own lot makes up 58 percent of the housing. The others are condos, townhomes and apartments, often under an HOA, where shared walls and drain stacks mean the plumber pins down which unit a leak comes from before anything is opened.

From call to fix

What happens after you dial, step by step

  1. 1

    You reach a person

Phone us or use the form. Whether it is lunchtime or 2 a.m., a person takes the details of what is going wrong.

  2. 2

    A visit is set

We agree on when the plumber arrives. Water still spreading counts as an emergency and is handled that way.

  3. 3

    Cause, then a written price

The plumber tracks down the source first, then puts the price on paper. Work starts only after you approve it.

  4. 4

    Checked and cleaned up

We run the repair in front of you, clean the area we worked in and haul the old parts away.

Common questions

Questions we hear from Buena Park

How far out does my Buena Park sewer lateral go?
All the way to the saddle or wye where it joins the City main, which can be past the sidewalk, the curb or the parkway. The City maintains the main only. Any work in the public right of way needs a contractor with an A, C-42 or C-34 license, so if the break turns out to be under the street, that stretch goes to a contractor who holds one; our license is C-36 plumbing. A camera run settles where the problem is before anyone digs.
Can I get a Buena Park permit for a water heater or a repipe online?
Yes. The Building Division lets those two jobs, house repipes and water heater replacements, be permitted online; other plumbing permits are issued in person. A new water heater goes in with both seismic straps and a relief valve line that ends in a safe place, gas connections hold a pressure test, and the permit stays open until the inspector passes the work.
Who supplies the water in Buena Park, and how hard is it?
For almost every address it is the City of Buena Park Water Department; a few areas are served by the City of Fullerton or Suburban Water Systems, so look at the name on your bill. About 91 percent of the City's water was local groundwater in fiscal 2024-25. In 2025 that groundwater averaged about 12 grains per gallon and the imported water about 14, so a water heater here slowly collects scale and does better with a regular flush.

Leak, backup or burst pipe

Day or night, this phone is picked up by a person.

Close the main water valve first. In most Fullerton houses that valve sits on the pipe entering the building, or else in the curbside meter box. Once it is off, call us; we stay on the line with you, and a plumber comes out from the nearest of our locations.
